2020 NVLBC Registration Form
A Word From the President

Welcome to the North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club Website.

Traditionally I would be welcoming returning members and those interested in becoming members to the opening of our 2020 season.  We currently have a full schedule of events that will see us to July 31st at our current site, and we are hopeful of completing the season, either with a lease extension from the City or at our new location nearby.

As you are aware the COVID-19 pandemic has caused BC officials to declare a state of emergency.  The NVLBC Executive Board is committed to protecting the health and well being of our membership and the community at large. To promote and support the recommendations of social distancing and self isolation by the BC Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), we have cancelled the remainder of the Winter Activities and are postponing indefinitely the SAGM. We are monitoring developments closely and are following the guidance of public health authorities. As conditions change, we will make further modifications to our 2020 season.

We will get through this current crisis together.

While we hope to be out on the greens sometime soon, at this time we are unsure of our Opening date.  In the meantime we ask everyone to stay calm, think of our community at large, and take the following precautions:

Be Informed - find out from reliable sources what you should be doing at this time to protect and prevent the spread of Covid-19
http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19

Social Distancing - This is considered as a "civic responsibility" for everybody, please do not congregate in groups and keep 6 feet of distance from others when in public.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/covid-19-social-distancing-1.5500876

Self Isolation - This is not for everyone, but if you have cold or flu symptoms, including sore throat, shortness of breath, coughing, fever - STAY HOME. Use the phone to contact 811 if serious, or a friend to buy groceries for you.
http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/about-covid-19/symptoms

Wash hands - often and thoroughly

https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1711355971548

Wear a mask - Show others you care about their health and safety by wearing your mask.

2020 Season Notice

March 20, 2020

Dear Members,

The NVLBC Executive held a meeting today to discuss the current situation with the spread of COVID-19.  Bowls Canada, Bowls BC, and Vancouver and District have announced they have cancelled all tournaments for the season and we agreed that we will be doing the same.  This action is taken to ensure that our members are not exposed to the COVID-19 virus while bowling or using the clubhouse.  The closure is in line with the recommendations of the federal and provincial health experts.  We understand that there will be disappointment in missing the 2020 bowling season, however, the health and safety of our members is our primary concern.

There will be no bowling at our club for the 2020 season and we will be cancelling the appropriate services to lower the cost of maintaining the club.  We also would like to let you know that your membership will be extended until April, 2021.  The membership extension provides the continuation of liability insurance coverage for the club members.

Effective immediately the clubhouse and greens will be closed and there will be signs posted to that effect.  If the COVID-19 virus pandemic shows significant improvement in the future and the health experts declare that the public can return to regular activities we will consider reopening the club.  Until then we wish you all a good and healthy spring and summer.  Be safe.

Regards,

Bruce Murray

NVLBC President

Lions Gate Hospital Cup 2020

Dear Members:

We hope this message finds you all well and safe during these unprecedented times.

As you are aware at this time our bowling season has been cancelled.

Every year the Lions Gate Cup is held on July 1st and you, as members, have donated more than $100,000 to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation over the years, typically raising $11,000 each year.

Although the club will be unable to hold our Canada Day tournament and fund raiser this year due to the current situation with COVID-19, we are suggesting that our members might like to support the “North Shore COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund” through the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.  We know that our donations would be greatly appreciated.

We have set up a dedicated page on the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation Website for our members to donate through.  See instructions and link below.

We hope you feel the same way we do and will decide to make your normal Lions Gate Cup donation to this worthy cause.  Please donate now or by May 15th so the Foundation can put our funds to good use right away.

Thank you in advance,

NVLBC Executive

NEW MEMBERS BULLETIN!

"Orientation Day" was Sunday, April 23rd 2017. BUT It's not too late to join! Lessons begin on May 1st for new bowlers. (See Schedule Page for details) Anyone interested in finding more information about the club or  wishing to fill out a membership form, should contact our Membership Director, Pat Skinner

Established in 1923, it's one of the oldest sports clubs on the North Shore, and one of the largest lawnbowling clubs in Canada.
NVLBC is a socially minded organization that is run exclusively by volunteers.
Lawn Bowling is a fun activity for people of all ages and we are always accepting new members.
We have 16 coaches and dedicate Tuesday "Pony Night" evenings to teach new members the basic fundamentals of the sport, introduce them to other new members in a social setting and encourage everyone to join in club events and activities.

We have a Junior program for pre-teens two nights a week that's been running for over 20 years.
The club is a great place to meet new people and make new friends. There are numerous social activities at North Van for members to meet and mingle during the season like dinners, barbecues, various game nights and parties.
During the winter months, the NVLBC Bridge Club members organize and host games offsite, while the Clubhouse on Lonsdale hosts Drop-in Darts Wednesday afternoon and Friday evenings, Drop-in Cribbage on Monday evenings.

From FAQ
Recently, Cary Manns a NVLBC member, has been selected to bowl on the Canadian Team and bowls internationally for Canada. Cary along with Clement Law won the Gold Medal in fours at the Canadian Championships. Members, Malcolm and Marie Taylor Also won Gold at the National Championship and Jenny Siu won a Gold as a member of the Ladies Four's team and competed at the National Championships. As you can see NVLBC is a very diverse sports club and the members bowl at all levels.

Welcome to the North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club’s Website.

North Vancouver LBC was founded in 1923 at our current location, which was then the North Vancouver Fair Grounds.  Today, the North Vancouver LBC boasts a membership of approximately 270 members of all ages, bowling experiences and abilities.

For the new bowler, we offer coaching and either friendly or competitive games wrapped in a very diverse and interesting social calendar.  During the bowling season, from May to September, you can bowl seven days a week from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm.  In the off-season you can participate in darts, crib, poker and bridge, plus a variety of other social events throughout the year.

Lawn Bowls is a sport for all ages and physical abilities.  Too often retired people starting to bowl say that they wished they had started rolling earlier in their lives.  Bowls is an easy game to learn and a more difficult game to master.  It is always a fun game to play and can be competitive from club competitions, to Vancouver-wide competitions to Provincial and National Championships.

If you are looking for a sport to test your abilities and to foster friendly competition and comradeship, come to the club and give it a try.  We can arrange coaching throughout the year.  You will not regret your decision.

See you on the greens.
